Selena
She was a musician singer-performer, and designer who broke down boundaries in the music industry. Her function as the Mexican American singer was modern and traditional. She introduced Tejano into the mainstream in an innovative way. Much like when an incredibly bright and friendly star is lost in a hurry, her untimely demise caused her to lose the popularity she had been gaining. People mourned the entire extent of the potential that was not fully realized. Over the years, fans were inspired to work even harder to ensure that Selena's successes would not fade away. Her tragic murder by a shooter triggered an outpouring of emotion in Latino communities similar the way people reacted following Elvis Presley's death and John Lennon's. A hugely popular Latino musician across North America, Selena's music has touched many lives across cultures. Selena was a hot glamorous performer on stage who was sometimes called the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was an outstanding role model, as she was active in anti-drug and AIDS campaigns.
